The Miami Heat put up 86 opening half scores versus the Grizzlies

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and afterwards said Terry had the support of the team.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Bam said. "You support him through and through. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Miami head coach Spoelstra commented: "Rozier is somebody who is important to all of us. He's had a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he goes through the situation."

Portland additionally secured their initial match after the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's absence and guiding the team to a convincing 139-119 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Chauncey and how he coached," Tiago said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Addressing the detentions for the first time, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the game," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner also mentioned an NBA investigation into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We investigated that situation and were open about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the league office can't do.

"Therefore, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they announced recently was an indictment.

"Moreover two and a half years after, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in fairness to Terry.

"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise here between upholding rights and investigating."
